Quick news while inking
I'm inking right now the future episode 34 of Pepper&Carrot after weeks of writing/storyboarding (four rewrite...). Many main characters are back: Coriander, Saffron and Shichimi. I'll keep sharing with you my progress on the production. 🙂

this seems like a good a time as any: how do you pronounce Shichimi? Sh as in 'share' and 'ch' as in 'chair'?

Haha, fun because last week when I was reading the storyboard to my wife; we discussed about that. The result: no idea!
Sh as in 'share' and 'ch' as in 'chair' is how I would differenciate the two 'sh' and 'ch' sounds; (and in French I would tell two time Sh as in 'share').
I tried to find the prununciation of the Japanese spice on Wikipedia but no luck; and when I tried to find Japanese speaker on Youtube culinary show they tell something like "hits-seemee" too quick maybe for my hears to get it ^__^

The intuitive pronouncation from my chinese wife was shuetschimiii "shue" like "shì" from 是 shì (shì = to be. 我是法國人 Wǒ shì fàguó rén = iam french). And chimi like tschimii like the korean dish Kimchi. ^^

How is the experience of drawing directly on screen with a Cintiq when compared to an Intuos? Is there a real advantage? Is it quicker for linear, for example? Thanks!!!
Hey, it all depends the skill behind the Intuos or the Cintiq.
I would say the benefits are huge for drawing on a Cintiq, and equal for painting with Intuos/Cintiq.
On Citniq I benefit of many quick reflex I built while drawing/inking on paper since my youth (for the worst or the best);
this type of instinctual little cross hatching, or control of pressure during the line. Something I don't feel with the Intuos.
Also, all Intuos type of tablet are rarely 1:1 size of the monitor. They are usually way smaller. (even my Intuos4XL mapped on a 27inch monitor).
A small movement results with a long line on monitor and it feels like being less in control. For obvious reasons; Cintiq are always matching 1:1. So, it's easier to work from the shoulder and not using finger/wrist to do small movements.
That being said, I still prefer the Intuos type and 'painting' workflow :)
Thanks for your time. This is exactly the explanation I was looking for. In fact, I have the same feeling when working with the Intuos (feeling a bit less in control when drawing) so that was the main reason I was asking. Because I work with lots of animation, the pencil feel is very important. I never understood why painting felt a lot better than drawing, now I know. Merci beaucoup!
