Carnivorous Plants

Published on

Transcript:

A wordless webcomic in four panels:

Panel 1 : A warrior descends the steps of a Colimasson staircase. She passes a strange room made of brick and stone, typical of dungeons. We see her in the frame of an arched doorway, surprised by what she sees: in the foreground, exotic green leaves and vines indicate that the room is infested with a carnivorous plant. Also in the foreground is the silhouette of a victim.

Panel 2 : Contre champs, she arrives, alarmed, with the help of a young adventurer whose head is completely trapped by a large bulbous flower.

Panel 3 : As she prepares to cut the vines with her sword, she is surprised: the captive's hands beckon her to stop!

Panel 4 : Wide shot: The flower releases the head of her victim: she's a young elf with a beautiful haircut and a perfect blow-dry. She looks at herself in a small portable mirror. The warrior is stunned.

that's a super nice alt description ! and a nice comic too ! :D

@modnarwave I have to disagree on a technical level with the alt text provided.

It sure has much effort and it is an enjoyable read, but it is not really a good description, as it explains the comic:

For instance: that the hands risen in front of the warrior (description) are begging her to stop (explaination) does not belong in a super nice image description.

My blind friend always insists that alt texts should lead the interpretation of a comic to the reader.

Still thanks for providing good image descriptions, that are clearly written with love.

I think comics are the hardest images to describe and finding the balance between making it comprehensive and short and making it descriptive is really hard.

@mdhughes Yes 😆 It's Dungeon Meshi, aesthetic product oriented. Dungeon Spa. 🤣

I realize your English mat not be your first language (it is also true for me). but, in the alt text, I notice the odd choice of the word "case". I think you meant "panel".

See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panel_(c for more explanation.

By the way, I find this episode, um, weird! What sort of a carnivorous plant where it wants to do a beauty job?! Good art though!

@thebluewizard Oh yes, I forgot to translate this part (Case is "panel" in French fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_(ba ). I also forgot to convert "healer" to warrior, as my first scenario had an healer. Probably I wasn't really awake when I posted. I'll fix them for the website, thank you!

did some wonderful artist watch the Dungeon Meshi anime? ☺

(that’s the association I got from the imagery ☺)

(aside: license cc by-sa: nice!)

@ArneBab Hehe, I watched it and liked the concept! I don't think I went too far, probably the 80% of the first season of the anime 🙂

If you also want some ideas for awesome magic battles, you may also want to watch Frieren: after journeys end.

Along with the most brazen use of German names in Anime that I’ve ever seen ☺
(try to get their translations to recognize the foreshadowing)

@ArneBab Hey, I started watching it! ( the anime, got recently a subcription to Crunchyroll), I had just too many feedback after the mimic episode about Frieren and was curious about it. 😅 I'm still at episode 4 or 5, but I really like it so far.

What we call in Spanish "peinado de honguito" ("small mushroom hairstyle"), it was THIS close to being performed with an actual mushroom!

I love the style of Mini Fantasy Theater and the simple to get jokes are a real pleasure to read.

At the risk of being wrong with my appreciation, let me say that I think this mix of manga style with European BD jokes/narration is awesome!

Isn't that the red haired warrior you once made a wallpaper of? Will we see more of her?

@timnolli Hey, yes, good memories 🙂 (I changed the armor, haircut, and I try to evolve her design).
Having character going back on the story is on my wish list for Mini Fantasy Theater, but It's just difficult to predict when I'll put that into practice. Right now, I'm still having fun and I try to open as many "doors" as possible and explore. It is probably visible in the variation of quality and storytelling. A big experimental lab 😅

we have little 'sleeping plants' here. You touch them, they close.

Anyway, besides your neat work, here's a great resource/tool that I found today:

Best.
