Here is a new printed derivation of Pepper&Carrot comic: the German version by [Ondrej Brinkel](https://mastodon.anzui.dev/@der_On). This version reuses [the open book-publishing Git repository](https://framagit.org/peppercarrot/book-publishing) made for the official English version and also use the same POD service: DriveThruComics. If you want to know more, Ondrej details better his motivations and the process on his blog:
* Read [Ondrej's blog post in German](https://anzui.dev/de/blog/2021/03-19/deutsche-version-pepper-carrot-buch-1)
* Read [Ondrej's blog post in English](https://anzui.dev/en/blog/2021/03-19/german-version-pepper-carrot-book-1)
I want to thanks Ondrej here because he was the first one using the book-publishing Git repository and so, he collected on his process all paper-cuts.
But thanks to that, the repository bugs were fixed, it can now run in Docker to compile the CMYK pages, and the README was enhanced. A really good cleaning Ondrej participated actively. He also kept communicating with the project since November 2020 and bought two print-proof to get a perfect result. No doubt his work on the repository will ease the usage for future publishers who want to take the same way.
Also, Ondrej proposed to send me a part of the benefits. So, if you want this version in German language, I can only encourage you to buy it! 😻
* [Buy Ondrej's German Pepper&Carrot book1 on Drivethrucomics](https://www.drivethrucomics.com/product/342650/PepperCarrot--Buch-1-Der-Flugtrank)

Painting complex patterns for background in perspective can really be tedious and a long task. Over the years, I came up with my own technique, using the cool features of Krita to spice up my background while lowering the time budget spent on this areas. In this video I'm sharing this technique! I'm detailing the process so this video is very beginner friendly.

I'm showing my usage of two different tablets to answer the classic "What tablet are you using?". I also do that because I'm tired about the numbered videos "Intuos VS Cintiq" as if you had to choose one clan over the other... Both have pros and cons and with a sane operating system (like my Kubuntu Linux 20.04) you can unplug one on the fly and use the other without too much magnetic noises and a get plug'n'play experience. It really helps, I don't even need to restart Krita. For more information about my tablets, read this blog post where I detail all the one I owned over the last 20 years: https://www.davidrevoy.com/article332/tablet-history-log
The artwork here is a commissioned artwork for Framasoft (www.framasoft.org) and more precisely for CHATONS (https://chatons.org): a collectivity of neutral and ethical host of decentralised services (the acronym in french CHATONS mean kittens). That's why the theme of this illustration is cats doing engineering on the top of a cloud. Sorry I had to shorten it in the video to "cat and cloud" or the intro would be very long and it wasn't the topic of the video anyway... Maybe for a later video!
Subtitle available.
### Timeline:
* 00:00 Intro
* 00:42 About the Cintiq 13HD, and Cintiqs in general.
* 02:30 Timelapse with Cintiq (inking).
* 02:38 About the Intuos4 XL and traditional tablets.
* 04:20 Timelapse with Intuos (coloring).

First colors of the future episode start to appear this morning and I couldn't resist to show you this screenshot 🤩 (speechbubbles hidden)
I still have a lot of work on the 10 pages and proofreaders work hard, but I'm confident for a release in March.

_Gif animation screencapture while starting a game_
Peppertown is a Pepper&Carrot RPG-themed idle game by Congusbongus and StarNavigator. You can play it directly on its itch.ico dedicated page [[1]](https://congusbongus.itch.io/peppertown) without installing anything: it plays directly in your browser.
**To play the game go to: https://congusbongus.itch.io/peppertown**.
### The game:
Here is my description of it: A sweet town gets attacked by 2000 Slimes! Pepper, Saffron, Shichimi and Coriander decide to protect it and start to fight back; and each success brings a little money, probably paid by the city to reward their hard work... But the girls are quickly exhausted after one or two fights and need to restore their health near the wall of the town. So, they all do a lot of walk between the building and the battlefield... At this low rythm, it would take years to remove the 2000 slimes!
Your mission is −if you accept− to manage the money earned by the crew and spent it. You are a sort of strategy manager of the battle, and you can click on a shop (four are available) and decide where to spend an upgrade: something to improve their speed? a better attack level? a faster recovery? a spell to teleport? Many options are possible. The order you'll spend the money will define your strategy to win the battle. It gets funny as soon as you start to get a little overpowered crew cleaning the monitor.
### Free/Libre and open-source:
Thanks to the authors because the game is fully open-source and released on Github under the MIT License [[2]](https://github.com/cxong/PepperTown). It was made with FLOSS tools (GIMP, VS Code, Phaser, Audacity, git, Tiled) for the MiniJam22 contest [[3]](https://itch.io/jam/mini-jam-22-anime/results) and congratz to Congusbongus and StarNavigator for reaching the 2nd place with Peppertown! 👍
### Ideas for the future:
I don't know if this game will continue to receive update or development, but I wish! I really liked to see the sprite-sheet of DiamondDMGirl [[4]](https://www.davidrevoy.com/article616/pixel-art-asset-by-diamonddmgirl) in action, they work really well. So here is a quick list of ideas from my perspective: I wish the slime were not 'killed/destroyed', but captured or just kicked far away. I also wish the shop had other Pepper&Carrot characters; older witch, and the item be potions. Maybe before starting a game three screens could tell the story instead of a single one? Also, I'm not sure how one can loose a game? Maybe a countdown or a way slimes could start destroying the town? Just ideas. Thanks again to the authors for sharing it!

New video tutorial: how to set up one Keyboard shortcut to check your painting values in #krita while painting? Here is a short (2min) quick tip to answer this :-)
Soon also on Peertube mirror managed by Touhoppai team: https://peertube.touhoppai.moe/accounts/shichimi/videos (thanks!)
### Timeline:
- 00:00 Intro and description.
- 00:15 Demonstration of how to use the shortcut of 'Softproofing', with Ctrl+Y, it allows one to preview the canvas into another colorspace.
- 00:43 I teach you here how to switch the document properties from the default CMYK "Chemical Proof" model in Absolute mode to the Greyscale model in perceptual mode.
- 01:38 In the end of the video, I show you how to apply this change permanently to your next new documents.
- 02:04 Outro and credits.

Here is a speedpainting I made to explore the RGBA brushes of Krita 4.4.2 after work. I love these brushes! It's a place I painted from imagination; a fantasy island accessible only at low tide. I painted it while inking episode 34 (it's done now, it took weeks!) so I played with colors on evening before closing computer to relax.
