WRITTEN_BY David REVOY - - 9 commentsI was honored to be 'webcam-interviewed' today by Tobias Ehnifrom the MMG ( MentalModels for GIMP ), a special development project from openusability , a non-profitorganisation who target a better usability for a lot of Free/Libreand Open Source Software (FLOSS). The target is of course GimpUi redesign for 2.8.
I was really happy to can share with a professional of usabilitymy workflow, and also show my favorite feature and also painfullmoment while using the Gimp to do my digital painting job. Iended-up with pretty similar critic as the one I said during theKrita sprint in may2011 . Tobias took a long time to analysis my actions, andunderstand my workflow and daily task I do with Gimp. Many thanksto him for his patience and professionalism.
This article is mainly a block of my various notes made beforeand after the interview. I hope they can be usefull for the MentalModels for GIMP project and also help the development of otherdigital painting software.

WRITTEN_BY David REVOY - - 20 commentsA blog post about my actual test with Gimp-painter 2.6 , and testing the future alternative : 2.7.2 Gimp-painter discontinued , or 2.7+ Git official Gimp with a lake of the features who interest me.
It's almost 3 years now I use daily for my freelance work Gimp-painter 2.6 mainly. And because I had to stick with this particular fork for making my artwork , I always kept distant from the Gimp developpement , mainly because all the features I enjoyed in this fork were not ported to 2.7x .
But lastly, I discovered I could keep my old Gimp-painter 2.6 installed and run in parallel other build of sources codes. Thanks to this tutorial for explaining me the guidelines of compiling Gimp sources codes in another folder. So, now I can test last Gimp(s). This post show some of the early things I found interesting and other not of my first experience with it.Mypaint screenshots; Many thanks !

WRITTEN_BY David REVOY - - 9 commentsWarning :the method presented in this article are too old to be applied now ( maybe work on Mate ? ) . Use this information at your own risk.
I hacked this morning the thumbnailer distribued with the openraster librarie to work with the Krita native *.kra files. I tested this on Linux Mint 9 and 10 ( so I presume it will works on Ubuntu Lucid and Maverick ). Btw, I don't know how the new Ubuntu 11.04 would handle it ( please use comments if you tested it with a success ). I redistribute it under the GNU GPL license V3 ( file inside ), same as the original libora thumbnailer.
