_9 books of the series, with title artworks and publisher logo._ The "Club of Magic Horses" ( french name "Le club des chevaux magiques" ) is a french saga of books for young ladies written by [Loic Léo](http://loicleborgne.over-blog.com/ "Loic Léo" ) and published by [Gründ](http://www.grund.fr/ "Gründ" ) Publishing in France. I work as a cover artist , but also I'm drawing inner illustrations, maps, and started threw the cover to design visually more and more an original universe. The saga is composed now of 12 books. The aim is simple, create the best game art on a common fictive game rule. This year the contest start with a mini challenge in 3D and 2D ; here I participate to the 2D one with Mypaint and Gimp-painter. 2D artist ( in a nuts shell, the rule is too long to explain it here ) had to create a picture with 2 characters inspired by text in the rules. The guideline were enough large to lets every artist do almost what they wanted in the style they want. Thousand of excellent participations from excellent artists this year ! My final picture is under ; I also posted speedpaintings and WIP picture. Thanks to the help of my friends users on 3DVF ; interraction with other artist is always benefit. 2010 Blender Conf with A.Goralczyk

[vimeo]17235250[/vimeo] _The video is speeded up to 16X to make this conference of one hour compressed into 3:55 minutes._ Last 2010 Blender Conference, [Andy Goralczyk](http://www.artificial3d.com/) & I collaborate on a "1 hour" public made piece of artwork together. That was a good moment and I thank a lot Andy to had share this moment with me around this picture. Andy created the initial concept in Blender, and I added the final touches in Gimp, MyPaint and Alchemy. Ella

'Ella' is my last personnal illustration at this half of November 2010. I wanted for the theme to mix concept-art and an illustrated posed character. I wanted a fresh picture, with bright colors. I designed her as a probable female main characters for a fictive rpg games. During making it, I was surprised to see how detailing killed some part of the picture, and making it more flat and lifeless. That's why I decided ( with the help of pretty good advices ) to let some area at a speedpainting step. I also like to show the digital painting media at a rought stage, with all this overlays of brush stroke. This made the hair looks lighter, the materials more rigid and the focus more on her detailed face. The final picture is a bit higher than 5K pixel, and was done only with Gimp-painter. I switched before to Mypaint very often to have access to performance, but with last computer ; a surboosted Dell with an i-core7 processor ; the painting speed is ok with Gimp-painter.So, I can use it from the start to the end on a HD picture. This is a good step of comfort for my open-source professional workflow ## Close-up The picture under reveal zoomed parts of the picture to give you an idea of the rendering in HD. High res 1080p available on the youtube option. ## About Sintel is an open short movie produced by the [Blender Foundation](http://www.blender.org/ "blender" ). I worked on it as an **Art Director** from February 2009 to September 2010. Official website [www.sintel.org](http://www.sintel.org/ "Sintel" ). Description from the official website : > "Sintel" is an independently produced short film, initiated by the Blender Foundation as a means to further improve and validate the free/open source 3D creation suite Blender. With initial funding provided by 1000s of donations via the internet community, it has again proven to be a viable development model for both open 3D technology as for independent animation film. This 15 minute film has been realized in the studio of the Amsterdam Blender Institute, by an international team of artists and developers. In addition to that, several crucial technical and creative targets have been realized online, by developers and artists and teams all over the world.." ## Art direction Many concept-art and artworks were necessary to capture the epic and fantasy feeling I wanted for Sintel. Here is a sample of the one remaining in the movie. I posted this one on Youtube, you can see it here. The DVD tutorials use a music soundtrack, without voice over. English labels will guide you, which makes it especially targeted at an international public. All the examples have been painted with Gimp-painter 2.6 . But you can follow the tutorials with your own 2D application too; like Krita / Mypaint / Photoshop ... etc. The lessons are not centered around the software ; but about the Technic. NDE Tunnel

Talking about NDE, or [**N**ear **D**eath **E**xperience](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_death_experience "Wikipedia link to the NDE page" ) is something difficult. Surely because it's related to the death, religion or personal believes. I'm personnaly sticking to science but I like all the fantasy imagery developped by this esoteric litterature. All the descriptions and articles I could read about stimulated my imagination. That's why I decided to depict a first vision of it after gathering a lot of documentation.
